The YK Walkout – Restore Our National Conscience task force is calling, at this time of grief and mourning, for synagogues, temples, and chavurot to devote time during this coming Shabbat morning, November 3rd, for discussion about the critical need for last minute efforts to Get Out The Vote, protect voter rights, and the Jewish imperatives to do so. Action may include time set aside during or after services for discussion, meditation, singing, strategizing, and marching towards these ends. Steps towards halting hatred and violence, whose deep wound in our community we are grieving, begin with having our voices heard with our votes.

Please read this stirring and comforting message and teaching from R. Arthur Waskow of the Shalom Center in this time of deep grief which will not deter us from Growing the Vote: Pittsburgh: Grieve, Heal, Vote!

It is time for a national תשובה to
— Restore America’s Conscience!

Shabbat Walk for Get Out The Vote and Stand in Solidarity for Love with Pittsburgh
Saturday, November 3rd, 2 pm, Berkeley

The Aquarian Minyan of Berkeley, with co-sponsors and supporters Beyt Tikkun, St John’s Presbyterian Church, Unitarian Universalist Church of Berkeley, is callling for all to meet at 2 pm at the intersection of Solano Avenue at Tacoma in Berkeley.

We will peacefully walk, sing out, call out, and display signs messaging “Get Out The Vote” and addressing “End Hatred and Violence”. Speakers will include faith leaders from the co-sponsors and supporting communities listed.

Please join us, and consider such an outdoor Shabbat Walkout in your community on the Shabbat which precedes this critical election and which follows the horrific murders in Pittsburgh.

We are taught by Hillel, “Al tifros min hatzibur, Do not separate yourself from the community” (Pirke Avot 2:5). Rather, we must actively be engaged in affairs of the community and its government. Most basic is to speak our voice through the vote.
We are taught not to be discouraged or feel that our vote doesn’t matter, and are emboldened by the teaching in Pirke Avot: “You do not need to finish the work, but you are not free to desist from it” (Pirke Avot 2:16).

You are invited to join us or organize a “get out the vote walkout” after your own worship service this weekend.
We welcome Bay Area synagogues, churches, mosques, and everybody else to join us in
