Besides the 18-minute Walkout on Yom Kippur, here are three more forms of observing the holy day that will deepen our spiritual growth: On the two days of Rosh Hashanah, traditionally we read two painful stories: Abraham’s expelling his older son Ishmael and Ishmael’s mother Hagar from his family, and Abraham’s endangering the life of his younger son, Isaac — and according to many commentaries, bringing about the death of Isaac’s mother Sarah, in sorrow that her son Isaac might have died. Thank you so much for putting this together with other co-sponsors Reb Aryeh. We did a variety of liturgical, discussion and walking creative additions inspired by this initiative. I rewrote the Eleh Ezkerah section to include our own Jewish and other people’s suffering, we had a discussion on white privilege, supremacy and racism YK morning. During mincha we read the few lines of Bereysheet where Yizthak and Yishmael come together to bury Avraham.
